Miranda (1875) is an oil painting by the English Pre-Raphaelite painter John William Waterhouse. From 1908-1914 he painted a series of paintings based upon the Persephone legend. They were followed by pictures based upon literature and mythology in 1916 (Miranda, Tristram and Isolde). Miranda is a character is William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. The play was first performed around 1611. Waterhouse painted versions of Miranda at the start and end of his career.
